PhD Cake

In the last days, two of my friends defended their PhD theses. Needless to say, they could not do so without a cake. So I made an eatable mortar board.

I thought a long time about the square on top. My first idea was to use a chocolate plate from a local store around. But these plates are not quadratic and I was afraid to break them during cutting. Other mortar board cakes on the internet just use cardboard, but I wanted the whole cake to be eatable. So in the end I decided to use ginger bread. It was stable, but unfortunately, the plates were quite thick and make the cake’s proportions look a little strange.

The cake itself is biscuit with chocolate cream, and the tassel is colored marzipan (in the respective faculty color).

Congratulations, Dr. J and Dr. S!
